food for thought

These last few weeks have been full of frustration.  Ever since the snow storm in mid-February, our cars have alternatively not been working.  If you really want to see how much you love someone--share one car with them for 8 weeks.  Our cars are old, and we expect repairs.  For them all to happen in such a short span?  Just aggravating.

Thankfully, I believe we have reached the end of the car journey.  All throughout this journey, I was very upset only once, about the middle of it.  However, I did have some anxiety throughout this experience, but only when I drove.  I tried to focus on the positive and be grateful that we had the funds to make repairs, and that family helped along the way (especially the father-in-law who gave up a Saturday to make repairs--so so grateful!).

Anyway, I hope that you have had a fabulous week!  Happy Friday, my friends, and I hope that you have a beautiful weekend!

food for thought

I've had a hard week this week, but I am trying to be open to love and everything that happens to me each day because I learn something.  I learn that I don't like it; that I am stronger than I think I am; that I love something; that I need to change something, etc.

Have a beautiful weekend my friends!

Food for Thought

{A picture frame with shards from our Polterabend}

Love is an act of faith, not an exchange.

~Paulo Coelho

Today starts a weekend of wedding fun since my brother will be getting married on Monday.  Tonight is the Polterabend!  In German tradition, guests come to the bride's house and smash ceramics, porcelain, and stone items like dishes to "break" everything bad that can happen to a marriage and to scare off the evil spirits.  Then the guests eat and drink while bride and groom clean up the mess, together.

My hubby and I had one before our wedding, and it was a blast!  I thought I shared it on here, but I didn't.  I received a gift of a picture frame with some shards glued on the glass as an anniversary gift, and I adore it!  Whenever I am mad or upset with my hubby, I glance at it.  Then I remember that we are a team and need to work together.  Mushy-sentimental stuff, I know, but hey, I am allowed every now and then!

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

Food for Thought

 {Dogwood Blossoms}

The most terrible of weapons is the word, which can ruin a life without leaving a trace of blood, and whose wounds never heal.

~Paulo Coelho

I've been thinking a great deal on words and how they are used.  Not just myself, but with others as well.  Words can build someone up to the highest of highs, but they can also devastate someone.  Take Masaru Emoto's water experiment as an example--words are powerful.

How do you use words?

{Cathedral Peak by Ansel Adams}

Happiness is contagious and will always manage to find a solution, whereas logic can find only an explanation for the mistake made.

 {Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona}

When you are going through difficult times, remember: you might have lost some major battles, but you survived and you're still here.  That is a victory.  Show your happiness and celebrate your ability to go forward.

{Grand Canyon}

May I be capable of accepting myself as I am:
a person who walks and feels and talks like anyone else, but who, despite his faults, is also brave.

Life has many ways of testing a person's will; either by having nothing happen at all or by having everything happen all at once.

Food for Thought

For the first time, I will smile without feeling guilty, because joy is not a sin.  For the first time, I will avoid anything that makes me suffer, because suffering is not a virtue.

Food for Thought

We allow ourselves to be influenced by what other people think.  We deny our own beauty because others can't or won't recognize it.  Instead of accepting ourselves as we are, we try to imitate what we see around us…  Beauty exists not in sameness but in difference...  It is the imperfect that astonishes and attracts us.
