monthly munchies | July

Hello July!  So glad to see you since local produce becomes more abundant, but the heat also goes up.  :(  Thank goodness July is National Ice Cream Month!

{I love eating red grapes; not a fan of white grapes}

So what's in store for the blog this month?
  • I scream; you scream.  We all scream for ice cream!  I'll be sharing some homemade ice cream recipes!
  • I'll be taking a week off the blog just because I need a break from it, work, and life, but I'll take two out of three.
  • Delicious, healthy weeknights meals will be coming your way!
Do you have any plans for July?

monthly munchies | June

Can you believe that we are already halfway through 2015?  It seems like just yesterday, we were celebrating the new year and all the possibilities that it holds.  Now it's summer which means summer getaways, picnics, family time, local produce and all kinds of other exciting things!

monthly munchies june
 {cherries are one of my favorite snacks especially when they are on sale!}

What's happening in June here at a girl eats world?  Nothing too exciting actually, or at least nothing too exciting planned.  I will be doing a week dedicated to iced tea because I haven't done anything with it yet!  I even have a recipe for sweet-tea brined chicken--WHOA!  Then I'm getting ready to make some recipes for July 4th and ice cream recipes for next month!

Do you have any fun plans for June?

monthly munchies | May

I hope that you had a great weekend!  A royal baby was born, Derby was fun, and the weather was wonderful here in the bluegrass state!  I couldn't ask for much more!

{sometimes, what you need is strawberries, yogurt and chocolate instead of a real dinner}

Any way, what's happening this month?  I have some recipes lined up with coconut including bread, brownies, and curry sauce for fish (a bit obsessed with coconut for some reason....)  Also, I will be featuring some delicious burger combinations in preparation for your Memorial Day cook-out.

Nothing else new and exciting really.  Getting a little personal here, but the last few weeks of life have been a wild (WILD) ride ending with us getting new car this weekend.  Needless to say my stress and anxiety have been through the roof over the last few weeks so I really didn't plan ahead much.  I should be much better this month with pre-planning for June!

I also went to see my doctor for a physical, found out I had gained about 10 pounds since last year, and promptly bought a fitbit (LOVING it by the way).  So this month I will be focusing on healthy dishes.  It won't be hard since local produce is beginning to show up at the farmer's market (check out my what's in season post tomorrow for May's produce list).

monthly munchies | April

I watched in slight horror as snow fell last week, but luckily they were only flurries and didn't hang around although the cold did for a few days.  However, now warmer temperatures and April showers have arrived!

{because sometimes I need the high protein}

Anyway, lots of fun stuff will be happening on the blog this month:
  • The farmer's market is starting back up so the what's in season series is back!  Catch it tomorrow.
  • April 7th is grilled cheese sandwich day.  To honor that, I have an entire week lined up of  delicious recipes AND a tutorial on how to make grilled cheese sandwiches three (yes 3!) different ways!
  • April 12th is coffee cake day.  I made cupcakes instead, and they are divine!
  • The last week of April means KY Derby preparations including delicious treats for race day!  I'll be show casing some KY Proud recipes all week!

Such a busy month so make sure you keep checking for new recipes!

monthly munchies | March

Yay!  It's the start of another month!  Can you believe that we are already 1/6 through this year?  How crazy is that?!

 {Because sometimes a snack does mean eating chocolate cake!}

Not really much going on in March, but there are a few things:
  • If you haven't yet, sign up for the Lexington Farmer's Market weekly newsletter to get recipes from me right to your inbox along with market news (closures, special announcements, availability, etc).  You can go here to sign up.
  • March has St Patrick's Day, and I have been making some Irish recipes that I think you'll love including an easy fish recipe and delicious chocolate cake!
  • The rest of the month will have the same easy, healthy recipes!

Have a safe and wonderful March my friends!  Hopefully, we will start to see some normal temperatures around these parts because this winter has been a bit difficult with all the gray....  I have seen spring flowers poking their heads out!

monthly munchies | February

Wow.....  It's already FEBRUARY!!!  Where did the time go?  It feels like we just started 2015, but I won't lie when I say that I am glad to see January go!  It was a bumpy ride!

bread with butter and nutella
 {bread with butter and nutella, a life-long favorite!}

Anyway, what do we have to look forward to in February?
  • I kid you not when I say that I went CRAZY with nutella recipes for National Nutella Day on Feb 5 (this Thursday!).  I made three oh-so-delicious recipes that I can't WAIT to share!
  • It's the month of love and chocolate.  Definitely be on the lookout for an easy truffle recipe and gluten-free chocolate cake!
  • Towards the end of the month, I'll get back to meals and such.  We can't have dessert ALL month!
Here's to a fantastic February!

monthly munchies | january

Happy New Year!!!

 {New calendar and favorite snack--cheese!}

I hope that you had a wonderful holiday; I know I did.  To be honest, it's been a bit difficult for me to come back to reality.  I've been reflecting on 2014, and I've been trying to figure out where I want to be at the end of 2015.  I'm not a big resolutions fan, but I do love to set goals!  My main goal for the blog this year to to get more involved with the KY Proud program.  Not sure how quite yet, but I will be!

Anyway, January is going to be all about healthy since many of you probably have resolutions to be more healthy!
  • This first week will be about sharing some of my favorite healthy recipes!
  • The remaining of the month will be healthy recipes (no desserts!)

Do you have any resolutions?  Want to see any particular healthy recipe on the blog?  Let me know!

Here's to a wonderful new year!

monthly munchies | December

I hope that everyone had a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!  Can you believe it's already DECEMBER?  Where does the time go?!

clementines
{Clementines--so cute, delicious, and healthy (especially this time of year)!}

Around this time of year, I simply devour clementines.  They are one of my absolute favorite fruits, and this is definitely the time of year to eat them to avoid getting sick!  I'll eat at least two per day until they aren't on sale anymore.  I'm also a snob; I only eat the ones grown in Spain (they taste better to me).

December is packed for me this year, but here is what's happening:
  • The first week of December I'll be sharing some of my favorite party recipes (hint: they are easy and so delicious!).
  • The second week of December I'll be sharing some homemade gifts that you can make in a series called gourmet gifts!  They are so easy and tasty (see a trend here?)
  • The third week of December I'll be sharing some recipes featuring local ingredients that are in season.
  • During December, I have booked myself every weekend with fun holiday stuff--a Christmas tea/brunch, decorating the house, the Nutcracker, cookie baking with the family, work Christmas party, The Hobbit movie, shopping for our yearly Christmas ornament, Christmas movie party, and Christmases with both of my families.  Whew!!!
  • I'll be taking about 2 weeks off around Christmas and New Year's.  It's the first time in several years that I have had a proper break so I am taking advantage of it (have I mentioned that I love my job--mall of that time is a paid holiday!).  Plus, I'll be in California for a week with my best friend!  I am SO EXCITED!!!!!
You can keep up with me on Instagram!  (or at least you can try!)

Since beginning in December, the local produce available drops down to almost nothing, I'll be combining it with this series just until April.  The local produce available in December is as follows:

Apples (beginning of month)
Sweet potatoes

Yup--that's it!  You can get these at Good Foods Co-Op (definitely); they will also have other produce that was grown in a greenhouse in Kentucky so that's the place to go!

Happy December everyone!

monthly munchies | November

November 1st, and there is snow on the ground (okay so maybe the cars, but it's cold and snowing--that's the point).  If this is any indication, this will be a long, cold winter.

Before we get to the heart of winter, fall winds down to Thanksgiving!  That's right; it's about 3 1/2 weeks away!  Start planning!  I know that my family is, and we are trying to get a jump-start on Christmas!

carrots and ranch
 {Let's be honest--any raw veggies with ranch is a perfect snack (at least in my book)}

So what's happening around a girl eats world in November?  Well...
  • It's all about THANKSGIVING!  This week, I'm doing a recap of my past Thanksgiving recipes, just to get you in the mood to start thinking about a menu.
  • Second week in November, I'll give you a sample Thanksgiving menu and tips to reduce the stressful holiday!
  • In the second week, I'll also start sharing some new recipes (brined turkey anyone?) that will go into the third week.
  • The fourth week is Thanksgiving!  I will be taking a short break from blogging on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Mainly because I have two Thanksgivings to make food for and attend.  Plus, this girl needs a rest!
  • I'm also having another giveaway so check back throughout November for more details!
  • Personally, I've gained some unwanted weight so I'm working on losing about 15 pounds.  I started last week, and I thought it would be hard.  I'm finding it's really easy (when I'm not stressed out, but I'm working on it).  I identified some unhealthy habits, kicked them to the curb, and added more intense walking to my routine.  Sorry--no desserts for a little while!
What are your plans for the month besides getting home to friends and family on Thanksgiving?

PS--Look out on instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for my contributions to HerKentucky.com and Mour Magazine throughout the month!

monthly munchies | October

Another month has come and gone already!  Where does the time go?

{Local gala apples and an almond butter recipe that I am working on!  The taste is perfect, but the composition needs work...}

I didn't get everything done that I wanted to do in September, but it's okay!  It's October so time to move on to a new list!

Here's what's happening around a girl eats world for October:
  • Look for a special announcement within the next few days!
  • The KY Proud Incredible Food Show will be happening (aka big farmer's market that you can taste and try out!).  I'm going, and I can't wait!  I'll report back with what I saw, and what I am excited about!
  • Fall and Halloween recipes (so many like pumpkin sage rice, pumpkin juice, pumpkin cookies, mummy dogs, bloody eyeballs, etc) will be heading your way!
  • It's The Hubby and my anniversary (two years married!  WOOHOO!)!  I will be making a the cake that we had at our wedding to celebrate and sharing it with my lovely readers.
  • Personally, I'm still trying to find balance between work, yoga, the blog, and the other stuff in my life, but I'll get through it.
  • It's fall!  My absolute favorite time of year so I will be living it up as much as possible!
What are your goals for October?

monthly munchies | September

Part of my improvements is to do a monthly overview that I'm calling the monthly munchies.  These are just little tidbits about what's going to happen or what's coming up on the blog!

{Sea salt and Lime dark chocolate--chocolate is a favorite snack of mine!}

So for September here's what's happening:
  • September is Bourbon Heritage Month; so, of course, I'll be eating and sharing some bourbon recipes.  Hubby and I will also be visiting a bourbon distillery and reporting back on that fun trip!
  • I'll be debuting other new posts this month like what's in season and some menu creation!
  • It's my birth month!  I'm having champagne and cakes from my favorite bakery in celebration!
  • A giveaway is also coming your way for one of my favorite kitchen gadgets!
  • Hubby and I will be going on another camping trip for our anniversary.  It's a bit early, but he was kind enough to work around my schedule (aka I get to go to the Incredible Food Show this year!  YAY!)  We also get to experiment more with our camp cooking (any tips would be appreciated!).
  • I've already made plans for every weekend in September; it's going to be a busy fall!
  • I'm doing a bunch of behind-the-scenes blogging research and maintenance so I'll be tweaking and working on some features.
September starts that slow cooling of the weather, and I can't wait!  I am not made for these hot, humid conditions.  Happy September everyone!  (Can you believe the year is already 3/4 of the way done?!  WHERE does the time go?!)
